Au substation: the site on our doorstep
Bayernwerk Netz is upgrading the substation in Au in der Hallertau at a cost of around 27 million euros: a new operations building, new medium- and high-voltage switchgear, new pylons, two transformers replaced and two more added. Capacity will rise from 80 to 230 megavolt-amperes. Work has been under way since the end of June 2026 and will continue in several phases until 2029.
From Casa Theresa it is around 6 km, so about 6 minutes. The journey to the site could hardly be shorter – and your team still stays somewhere quiet, with its own kitchen and space for trailers and cable drums in the car park.
Juraleitung, section C: Sittling to Altheim
TenneT is replacing the existing 220 kV line with the new 380 kV Juraleitung. Section C runs for around 48 km as an overhead line from Sittling near Neustadt an der Donau via Abensberg, Rohr, Kirchdorf and Rottenburg an der Laaber to the Altheim substation near Landshut; a new substation is also planned near Rottenburg.
The planning approval procedure is running at the Government of Lower Bavaria, and the public hearing took place in June 2026. TenneT expects the first decisions at the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027 – so construction will start in 2027 at the earliest and will take several years. The Kelheim part of the route is 25 to 35 minutes away from us, via the B301 and the Hallertau back roads with no town traffic.
SuedOstLink and the Isar converter station – honestly
The SuedOstLink ends at the Isar converter station near Essenbach and Niederaichbach. Work is going on there and on the cable section between Pfatter and the A92: according to the Bundesnetzagentur, around 10 of 45 km of underground cable had been laid by June 2026, the works are expected to run until 2028, and the second converter station for the SuedOstLink expansion has been approved since November 2025.
The converter station is just under an hour away from us – if you are working on the Isar every day, you are better off staying closer. Our apartments make sense for teams that commute between several sites, for instance between Au, the Juraleitung and Landshut, or who would rather have a whole apartment than individual rooms.
Other substations in the region
In Zolling in the district of Freising, TenneT is looking for a site for a new 380/110 kV substation; no construction schedule has been published yet. To the south, Bayernwerk is building the Unterschleißheim See substation at a cost of around 39 million euros, due for completion in 2028. You can reach both from Casa Theresa in 30 to 40 minutes.
